Cabo Trek “whale watching tours“are known for the high standards it has set in Cabo San Lucas: we provide the most comprehensive and educational tour in the area.

Having the opportunity to listen to Humpback Whales singing underwater with out hydrophone is a feature very few provide here in tow.

Humpback whales are known for their beautiful song sessions, which are known to last several hours and up to 2 days. These sequences of moans, howls, cries, and other noises are quite complex and are specific to each individual population on humpbacks. Scientists are studying these sounds to decipher their meaning and what types of interactions follow these involved songs.

Why humpback whales sing still remains unknown. It is most likely that humpbacks sing to communicate with others and to attract potential mates. Although more recent data collected in Hawaii, shows that singing actually attracts males as opposed to females, and that the interactions between singing males are usually non-aggressive.

Whales also create non-vocal sounds by their more aggressive behaviors such as pectoral slaps, tail slaps and especially breaches. These sounds carry several hundreds of meters and act as another way of whale communication. These non-vocal sounds are believed to convey differing messages such as potential mate location, food source, or presence of danger.
